چکیده

We describe a case of choriocarcinoma in which increased concentrations of beta-choriogonadotropin subunits in serum indicated recurrence of metastasis long before the tumor could be confirmed by visualization techniques, while intact choriogonadotropin remained normal (less than 5 int. units/L). Therefore, detection or monitoring of choriocarcinoma requires the assay of free beta-hCG subunit or an assay that measures both the free beta-subunit and intact choriogonadotropin.

Utility of commonly used commercial human chorionic gonadotropin immunoassays in the diagnosis and management of trophoblastic diseases.

BACKGROUND Patients with trophoblastic diseases produce ordinary and irregular forms of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG; e.g., nicked hCG, hCG missing the beta-subunit C-terminal segment, hyperglycosylated hCG, and free beta subunit) that are recognized to differing extents by automated immunometric hCG (or hCG beta) assays. This has led to low or false-negative results and misdiagnosis of pe...

Background: Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) is the malignant form of gestational trophoblastic disease that has different capabilities in metastasis and invasion stance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify an appropriate and applicable longitudinal marker, using the serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels during 21 days after mole evacuation for predicting the ges...

Comparison of 2 human chorionic gonadotropin assays as tumor markers assays.

Intact human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), hyperglycosylated hCG, and the free subunit are the forms of hCG produced by healthy tissues and tumors (1 ). Intact hCG is the predominant form in serum and plasma in pregnancy and trophoblastic disease, hyperglycosylated hCG in choriocarcinoma and testicular cancer, and the free subunit in nongestational malignancy. Proteases present in macrophages a...

Are laboratories reporting serum quantitative hCG results correctly?

BACKGROUND Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone that exists in multiple forms. Immunoassays commonly used in clinical laboratories measure intact hCG, total beta hCG (intact hCG + hCG free beta-subunit), and/or hCG free beta-subunit. Measurement of serum concentrations of hCG is useful for confirmation and monitoring of pregnancy, diagnosis of trophoblastic...

New discoveries on the biology and detection of human chorionic gonadotropin

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone comprising 2 subunits, alpha and beta joined non covalently. While similar in structure to luteinizing hormone (LH), hCG exists in multiple hormonal and non-endocrine agents, rather than as a single molecule like LH and the other glycoprotein hormones. These are regular hCG, hyperglycosylated hCG and the free beta-subunit of hyperglyc...
